As already pointed out by others, we started porting kdelibs to Qt4. Thanks to the restless work of Maksim, DCOP now compiles and works, at least the client part of it. He managed to restore compatibility with the protocol used in KDE3, so we now have some means of posting stuff between toolkit versions. Read More

It's nice to not only see increasing popularity of KDE but to also see applications for KDE prosper and getting the recognition they deserve: last five dot stories are all about KDE applications people have written stories about. :-)

The FLOSS-Usability project is a strong initiative to bring developers and usability folks together. Their first "Sprint" took place in February in San Francisco and it was a amazing workshop (image). Eugene Eric Kim then brought up the idea of usability mentoring or caretakers who support the projects if the developers want it. This "matchmaking" was and is one of the basic ideas of OpenUsability, so that we decided to put our efforts together. That's in fact georgious news, because the Floss-Usability initiators have so much speed and they are very excellent in getting people together and keeping things rolling.

Today I just decided to go work outside, it's a very nice sunny day, not too cold and not to hot also (about 20C), so it's perfect to work on the balcony drinking a nice cold German beer ( make that several) and the forecast for next week is also good so I think that the I will move my office outside a lot this summer ... since I'm working from home mostly contracting work, I can do it. Sometimes you learn surprising things while you drive a car. Last time this happened was on Thursday evening. SambaXP conference had ended in Goettingen, and I gave Tridge a lift to the Frankfurt Airport. For me it was only a very little detour on my way to Stuttgart. I've pretty much got my dynamic DCOP to SOAP bridge working now. There is a DCOP interface called 'SOAPGateway', and it has a addService() slot which takes two args; the name of a DCOP service and the URI of a .wsdl file defining the SOAP service. The .wsdl file is parsed and a suitable DCOP service is generated, with slots for each SOAP method call. Read More
