bzr vs darcs

Thursday, 18 May 2006
After reading Toms blog I installed and tried Bazaar (bzr). I wanted to anyway since this is Mark Shuttleworths answer to svn and cvs. I tried it and I must say I'm disappointed. Not because of the ideas it has, they are very good and they address the problems cvs and svn have head on, which Tom also noted. Read More

Adding a Ruby Interpreter menu to Konsole

Wednesday, 17 May 2006
I've recently added a 'Ruby Interpreter' menu to start an irb shell in Konsole. Just create a file called ruby.desktop in /usr/share/apps/konsole with the following contents: [Desktop Entry] Type=KonsoleApplication Name=Ruby Interpreter Comment=Ruby Exec=/usr/bin/irb And that's it! Your Konsole will then have menu entry under 'Session' called Ruby.

Some time ago, I got a personal invitation to represent KDE with a booth at CLLAP on May 23-24 2006. Altough this event happily intersects with my work and my (already legendary) lack of personal time, I decided to give it a go (read more...) Read More

Installing opensuse 10.1 from the network.

Tuesday, 16 May 2006
I had a frustrating hour today, I wanted to install suse on this spare machine here so I can test the KOffice packages on that, and other distros. I choose the small image that downloads everything during the install; which is what I always do for installing Debian. (not that I install that more then ones per machine, but still, familiarity gets you points : ). Read More

/pub/suse/ /supplementary/ KDE/update_for_10.1

Monday, 15 May 2006
ftp.suse.com and first mirrors now carry the "KDE supplementary" package repository for SUSE Linux 10.1. "supplementary" is one of the unsupported playgrounds of SUSE packagers for providing newer application versions like KDE 3.5.2 with KOffice 1.5.1 for past distribution releases. See this wiki page for a list of other YaST repositories, most of them provided by the openSUSE community, and read this fine tutorial how to add them. Read More

Flake progress

Monday, 15 May 2006
The KOffice objects-manipulation library is progressing nicely; since my last blog (2 weeks ago) I have added and fixed lots of things. Not nearly 2 weeks hacking worth, though, with LinuxTag in between. Read More

Pride

Monday, 15 May 2006
Seeing a body of the size of Gouvernment of Canada do the right thing can be a reason of pride. Statcan introduced web-based census this year. But they had a limitation as to what browsers can be used. Needless to say, Linux browsers were ruled out by default. I'm pleased to advertize that they timely fixed the false problem. Read More
