A few weeks ago, we did a session on [w:paper prototyping|paper prototyping]* at the Berlin Open Software Usability meeting. Sven was currently implementing a new PDF import dialog for the GIMP, so we chose it for our exercise. In his blog, he describes the procedure and confronts the results of our prototyping with the current dialog. Antenna was our testperson and took some nice pics.

Ho ho ho now I have a wattmeter
I recently moved into my new house, which also means that I have to pay for electricity directly. Wanting to do know how much power things are really using in the computer room, I went out and bought a wattmeter. It measure power use at the wall. I thought that other people might be interested in seeing some "real world" measured values.

The conference was IDG Developer's World, held here in São Paulo on Aug 17th. The target audience was mostly corporate people. Helio asked me whether they were IT managers or higher up: I can't tell. I know I saw a lot of badges with company names, including consulting companies, but I don't know what positions these people hold.

Hard Knock Outs
Don't you love it when all your hardware goes on strike almost at the same time?
On Wednesday, my workstations secondary harddisk went on strike, eating (among other things that I had mostly backed up) a report I was working on for quite some days. All lost, sucks. I suspect bad sectors might be the cause. I will get a new harddisk after aKademy, for now I am living with only one.
