The week after THE week
This week has been quite tiring. First, my boss didn't allow me to take Monday as a personal free day in order to clear up the things we left from the akademy at the university. The Monday started with a couple of "pressure" meetings with by boss (just him and me) explaining me why I should work harder than ever and blah blah. So I've only been able to clear up things from the akademy after work, on afternoon/evenings.

I left Malaga last friday, so I missed the beach party :( The reason why I didn't blog before is because between the 02/09 and the 06/09 I didn't have any net access because I was in Switzerland to see my mother and some friends. I must say I had a lot of fun there, especialy at the vinea ( www.vinea.ch ) where I paid 30 CHF ( I let you make the conversions ) to spend a complete day sampling swiss wine ... I discovered a lot of wonderfull wine there too bad they didn't have a big enough production to export some of them to Canada :(

I was playing with googlefight today when it occurred to me to run a few KDE names through the gauntlet... Amused, I decided to use Google's web API to run the list of kde-ev member names and produce the first KDE-Google-Fight-Royal-Rumble :=)

Pedestrian Lights

[image:1424 align=center width=300 class=showonplanet] Some of you may have spotted the funny pedestrian lights in Malaga: When jumping to 'Go!', the small green man starts to walk and a countdown tells the pedestrian how much time is left to cross the road. When counting 8 seconds, the man starts to hurry: He runs to get to the other side of the street :)

Back in Fuerth

I don't know about other cities, but for Nuernberg/Fuerth the definite sign for being home is entering the metro and the driver saying "Pleahz schteb bek" (trying to mimik franconian accent in English isn't really easy :) as the train leaves the stations. I know several people (including my mother) that insist on taking the metro if they are around just for that to happen. And just today I was in a train where the driver tried to speak plain german, but then again in the tone of a city guide. Very nice touch for those getting up early actually :)

Everything good gets to its end
It's said that everything good gets to an end, and that's what happened to the akademy: Finally, it's over.
Celeste asked me during the party at the beach if I was glad the akademy was over, after thinking about it for a day, I should say I'm not. I'm glad the work is over, but I'd have liked it to continue for at least some couple of weeks with all of you here :).

DigiKam wins TUX award

Congratulations to all the [http://www.digikam.org/Digikam-SPIP/|DigiKam] developers with winning the [http://www.tuxmagazine.com/node/1000150|TUX 2005 Readers’ Choice Award]. Being able to provide users with great software is what makes working on open source software for me one of the most rewarding activities. It's great when users acknowledge that they really like your software with an award like this. One of the nicest moments at aKademy this week was when a gentleman came up to David and me and thanked us for making KDE. He had been using KDE for a few years and it had improved his computer live considerable.
