Montreal and Prizes

Jriddell  |
Cycling around Montreal on the back of a Brompton me and Sladen discovered you can get very very large pumpkins very cheaply after Halloween. Montreal is on an island and has long bridges that take a good while to cycle over. For that authentic North American experience we went to college (called a school) and hung out with the anime club who have nice sofas. We discovered the original buckyball and found that their artworks make for very challenging climbs. Read More

Were-rabbits and unit tests

Apparently there was a kangaroo in our back yard this morning. Given that just after that we saw a (probably domestic) rabbit, I wonder it it might have been a Were-Rabbit, rather than a 'roo. Read More

KDE 3.5 Release Candidate 1

Beineri  |
KDE 3.5 Release Candidate 1 is finally released. Updating the Konstruct build script was easy, but creating the SUSE packages in time did cost me some hours of sleep which I in my current state should have better spent in bed.

Beineri  |
Maybe you haven't heard this yet as international pr[ess] is slow: After last week's reports that Novell plans to not ship the KDE desktop anymore on Novell Linux Desktop and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server products, the company got lots of feedback from its customers. And as is reported in the press (German) Novell listens to them and reconsidered its desktop strategy: Novell will continue to ship KDE also in the enterprise products as supported option and it's said that it will be easy to choose KDE as your desktop. :-) Read More

Outlaw

I've just spent my first week working at Foton Sistemas Inteligentes in Gran Canaria. I've been learning some Spanish, trying out Ruby on Rails and helping with translating a tourist information site to English. This weekend there is a WOMAD festival in Las Palmas, and I went there last night to see Kanda Bongo Man from the Congo. Wow! Soukous is about my favourite dance music, and being able to just hop on a bus and see that kind of gig for free was amazing. It feels like permanently being on holiday here; the sun shines, people are friendly and you have fun. Yet people work hard and still get lots of stuff done. Read More
