#opensuse-kde
Beineri

After the GNOME team made a big splash about their openSUSE involvement some people thought it would be a good idea to found #opensuse-kde to not flood other #opensuse-channels with KDE talk anymore. So join for a more direct way than via the ever existing opensuse-kde mailing list (subscribe) to involve in or stay up-to-date with KDE on openSUSE development.

CMake is a great tool
Mirko

At last year's Akademy, I had the chance to ask Bill Hoffman, one of the key figures behind CMake, a couple of questions about it. One of them was the availability of the full CMake documentation, which seemed to only in print. It turned out that this is not the case: CMake is well-documented and easy to learn. Read on for more.

Yesterday I blogged there were 4 days left. Today there are 5 days left: Google extended the deadline to March 26th.
So you now have the weekend to finish your proposal. But I still would like to see submissions earlier than that.

A curve widget anyone?
Boemann

I'm trying to create some interest in this curve widget for a wider audience. For almost two years now Krita have had it, though it originates from digiKam where it adjusts colors. I took the original code and pretty much rewrote it to be more generic. And that was a good call, because a year later Bart Coppens used it for something completely different namely the pressure sensitivity of tablets.

As happens the registration for Akademy has been delayed because the one we were looking at didn't work. If you need a visa to enter the UK (UKVisas tells you here) and you are a known KDE dude coming to Akademy then contact me to get your invitation letters sorted.

French Parliament Chooses Kubuntu; oem-installer; docs hero

Some people have asked me which of the various Ubuntu distributions the French Assemblee Nationale has chosen to run for all its members. While there seems to be no official press release from the company involved yet, I can point you towards the one site which got it correct as Le Monde who put a K before the name.

Marble News
My last blog entry about Marble dates back a few months already, so I'd like to give a small update: Just recently I added a grid layer and a measure tool. For the curious here's how it looks like: I also started to work on Wikipedia integration which isn't done yet, though. If you're still searching for a Google Summer of Code 2007 idea, then maybe Marble is for you. I suggested several Marble ideas on our new technology portal KDE TechBase. But hurry up, the final deadline for GSoC 2007 application submissions is on Saturday already! BTW: Quaternion SLERPs rock ;-)

Decibel Hackathon is go!
About an hour ago the Decibel hackathon in Darmstadt started. Hosted by Basyskom, this weekend brings together domain experts in instant messaging, VoIP, PIM data and contact management to create the real time communication infrastructure for KDE 4. At the moment we are all bringing each other up to speed on the state of each others' technologies. We're all very excited, and it's not just the coffee - stay tuned for updates.

There is hope
I'm a juk kind of guy.
Yet a few weeks ago, frustrated with my inability to make akode or arts play the 50 mp3s from my collection of 2000-odd pieces (mostly ogg, personal CDs-ripped), I gave Amarok a new try. I still feel (very) awkward with the interface. But I kinda like a) the default classifications available in "Collection"; b) the automatic refresh/update of the collection and c) the statistics tool.
