No, this is not HTML5 topic, I mean fruits of Calligra Suite Sprint #2 ;)
My plan is to post series of logs from the Calligra Sprint on the following days. Each covering one topic. Today about branding.
The story started when our logo has been delivered by our (KDE's) designer Eugene Trounev. I have looked over his shoulder not once on various occasions and I know his attention to detail.
Then I decided to express my respect for his work and to all Calligra contributors by helping out with organizing branding to help two parts of the community: Calligra contributors and users. While contributors decide to give the community freedom for creating derivative works they so often also wish to see recognition to their very creations through clear identification. Users on the other hand expect as easy as possible way to recognize Calligra technology and distinguish it from other derivative works. Related discussion started on mailing list (October, November).
So after a while I proceeded to create Calligra Suite Logo Guidelines. A draft has been already published.
At the sprint I have also briefly presented fellow contributors topics related to branding (PDF. Some of this is rather known but some worth reminding a bit more.
Among other elements a web page with logos is also needed. Early version at early stages is available at http://community.kde.org/Calligra/Logos. You can download small and large logos and use them in any places as a visual reference to the Calligra Project. Please note that licensing of its artwork has not been fully decided yet and that it is trademark of the Calligra project, legally protected even before formal registration is initiated.
PS: It's never enough to say thank you to Nokia and KO GmbH for sponsoring and organizing so great meeting and covering travel costs.
