"KDE is the Default on Novell Linux Desktop"

Would I tell you this? No, I'm fair and don't try to cheat you. Whoever tried Novell's Linux Desktop 9 will know that it has no default desktop, you have to choose either KDE or GNOME during installation and there is no indication what to prefer. Is the GNOME camp simply uninformed or do they have dishonorable intentions? I keep reading from them and hearing from them like in the "101 Things to Know about GNOME" talk at GUADEC that NLD's default desktop would be GNOME.

And a cookie to whom can give a link to a news/report about the proclaimed 1 million running GNOME desktops in China: I don't mean the initial declaration of intent (coincidentally dated inauguration day of that then new product) but something newer than 2003.

It should be renamed gnomewatch.org. That URL is much more appropriate since kdedevelopers.org has been reduced to people whining and moaning about any random comment or event that happens in the Gnome world.

Now who's whining and moaning here? Since when is it whining to rebut misinformation?

A: when it's YOUR misinformation ;)

Umm, I am looking at the last 8 topics here, and they are all basicly about development issues that are being addressed in KDE. One was a random musing and another was an opinion. If you think that these are all gnome bashing then you obviously need to look into some remedial reading courses at your local highschool.

what's this here "remedial" you speak of, Yankee?

GNOME was founded in order to literally kill KDE, so I think there is at least some lingering feeling competition there, even though the main focus of GNOME has shifted away from killing KDE over time.

If my mind doesn't fool me I think I heard Jeff mention it also in his Project Topaz (10x10) talk.

Right. He also has a strange self-deception of "major commercial distribution" like NDS being major and SUSE Pro as Mandriva being not.

If you read the note at the bottom of that page, you'll see that the list is automatically generated from DistroWatch. If you have a look at DistroWatch's Novell page, the 'default desktop' field contains both GNOME and KDE. No doubt this has something to do with it.

There is no default desktop on the NLD - I've got several people running the NLD with KDE. You pick the Gnome or KDE radio button in the install, and it gives you that desktop. Easy.

No, I don't know anything about the 1 million desktops in China at all and I suspect we will never hear anything. I can certainly tell you that the NHS thing in Britain was rubbish. It was the NHS simply trying to look as if they were putting things out to tender while Microsoft's consultants worded things in such a way that no one else had a chance of meeting the requirements.

They still do let their mouths run away with themselves at times the Gnome guys, and that's bad because people start pushing things before they are really ready or before people have thought things through.

Oh, and do you know what all the graphical tools in the OES (Open Enterprise Server - Novell's flagship product) are written with and the desktop you see when you boot it up? One guess ;-).
