Having too much time

Due to our little hackweek project winning in two categories, I have the rest of the year so called "Innovative time off". In the beginning 10 days ITO sounded like nothing, but now I'm kind of forced go give up on real work and do fancy experiments :)

So little hands

This is my first evening I have on my own, so I thought I let the world know:

On the 16th of August 2007 our son Felix made world++. It was a busy day - after I complained on the 15th about deadlines it came a bit out of the sudden. Just as we agreed with the midwife that the 17th would be the better date anyway, he protested so heavily that he made it at 16 minutes to midnight (I don't want to bore you with medical details).

Meanwhile I figured the 2^4th of the 2^3th month of 2..7 has its charm too - but only to boring people :)

Feature Driven Development

Just three words: I hate it.

The deadline was 9th of august, just one feature to finish and what happened? It's late. No feature, no release. That's why I hate feature driven development. I want bloody deadlines!

Rainy weather

After a week of about no sleep due to aweful heat, it was really rainy around here. So what are you doing with a rainy weekend? Right, improve openSUSE boot time :)

So with a little optimisation of things already in place (no magic, no new white paper material) I got the boot time for a default (KDE) installation of alpha5 (tried the one CD install, but had to install quite some things from factory to make it usable - e.g. Nimbus Sans looks horrible as default font) down from 32s to 26s. That's an improvement of roughly 20%!

13 days

Just to keep you informed: the KDE sysadmin team is working on migrating our svn server to subversion 1.4. If you look for an howto on this you will find "dump and load" - aka svnadmin dump old | svnadmin load new. Nothing fancy. So I started this on my workstation (having had it pimped in april I thought it's good enough) and waited... 13 days. Now I need another day to load the revisions of that 13 days into the repository.

But soon we will have svn 1.4 on our servers - and most likely you won't notice.

Back to prime numbers

Last year I turned 30 and I know people still wonder when I end up being as old as I look. But on the way to this I pass today the next prime number - and I must say it feels much better than last year. The main reason is that I have a new job. This may suprise one or two, but it shouldn't.

More KConfig love

I wanted to use the title "merged kconfiggroup_port branch", but I think I should learn from Aaron, so there we go :)

It all started by a bug David fixed in kmail:

KConfig *config = giveMeRandomKConfigObject();
config->setGroup("Hallo");
config->readEntry...
