Simple Menu launcher on KDE Store

Simple Menu v1.0

Quite a while ago already I wrote a launcher menu widget named Simple Menu. It's using the same backend I wrote for our bundled launchers, and it's a little bit like Application Dashboard scaled down into a small floating window, plus nifty horizontal pagination. It's also really simple and fast.

While some distributions packaged it (e.g. Netrunner Linux), it's never been released properly and released - until now! Starting today, you can find Simple Menu on the KDE Store and install it via Add Widgets... -> Get new widgets in your Plasma.

Please note that Simple Menu requires Plasma v5.9 (to be released tomorrow). Actual v5.9, not the v5.9 Beta - it relies on fixes made after the Beta release.

Hey. Can you make and extra mode like os x Launchpad? Or atleast add options to don't show the list and buttons (shut down/reboot/etc)?

No, that's what Application Dashboard is for (but actually, you can hide the list by setting showFilterList to false in the applet's config - unsupported option).

This is just what I wanted! Can't wait to rock it in Arch.

I use Plasma-5.8.5 and KF-5.30 and Qt-5.8.0
After adding "via Add Widgets... -> Get new widgets " into my Plasma. I received error as below:

Błąd wczytywania pliku QML:
[eng. Error in loading QML file]
file:///home/piotra/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.simplemenu/contents/ui/main.qml:59:9: Type MenuRepresentation unavailable

Hmm, did you read the blog to the end? Simple Menu really does require v5.9! :) The error is about new v5.9 API it's using (among others).

If one could have wishes ... I wish the list of categories were on the left hand side to reduce mouse travel. I wish the list of categories could have a "recently opened" and/or "favorites" entry (pre-selected by default).

Note your favorites are on the first page of "All Applications", which is pre-selected by default :).

By eike hein at Tue, 01/31/2017 - 12:17

Ah! That's smart as well! Is it somewhat indicated that they are favorites?

By benQ at Fri, 02/03/2017 - 11:30

No :( Need to think of a good way!
