Qt to be LGPL

Wednesday, 14 January 2009  |  jriddell

Not something I thought I'd ever be posting on the Dot but Qt is relicencing to LGPL.

They're also going to open up the development archive to non-Nokia developers.

I never did understand why GPL was a barrier but talking to people at conferences it was often their main reason for choosing against using Qt. Now there's no reason not to use the world's finest toolkit.

To the obvious question of how Qt will now be supported the answer is continuing to sell support, licencing to static linkers and LGPL haters, and making kick arse software for Nokia.

Thanks Nokia.
