No blog for over a month as everyone is busy with openSUSE 11.1. The release countdown counter got kicked off too again. What will openSUSE 11.1 bring? In short the best shipped KDE desktop yet (KDE 4.1.3 with many backports and patches, no KDE3 or even Gtk+ apps running by default, Will is heavily busy with NetworkManager-kde4 plasmoid) as well all other latest and greatest versions (like OpenOffice.org 3.0 and Gimp 2.6).

No GTK and KDE3 apps?
How is anyone supposed to record CDs/DVDs then? Did you find a hidden K3b version for KDE4 that actually works?
BTW: Do you plan to ship Konqueror (slow) or Arora (good, when used with Qt 4.5, but Qt 4.5 is still a preview release)?
Re: No GTK and KDE3 apps?
Does K3b start on your desktop by default? :-)
Konqueror and Firefox
Nomad vx NX
Hi,
I've read up about Nomad, which sounds quite interesting (a remote desktop client compatible with existing Windows software). Was this the main reason to work on it?
The main reason I wonder about this is because of NX from NoMachine (which is a very powerful solution already). I don't quite understand why this isn't being picked up more actively.
Re: Nomad vx NX
Sorry, I'm not involved in its development and don't know anything more about Nomad than what is written on the wiki page. Maybe it's because NX doesn't allow remote 3D desktop cubes ;-)...
KOffice 2.0 Beta
Are you sure you want to ship the KOffice 2 betas? When we talked to KOffice upstream about them for Fedora 10, we were told that 2.0.0 will be comparable in quality with KDE 4.0.0, so I don't even want to know what the betas are like (and so we decided to ship Fedora 10 with KOffice 1.6).
Re: KOffice 2.0 Beta
Don't expect everything in our development distribution to end in next distro release repository. :-)
kpowersave?
There has been a bugreport since before 11.0 about kpowersave not working with KDE4.
Now there is no KDE3 app running by default, so is kpowersave replaced by powerdevil?
Re: kpowersave?
Yes, together with battery plasmoid popup backport.
hopefully
I hope you are right and knetworkmanager isn't a usability desaster like in kde3 :)
Btw usability desaster: I can see the crazy yast printer setup dialog is new. Fine! Not perfect but now usable. :)
What's about the printer applet? I see it's not installed by default in beta3?
My best wishes!
Re: hopefully
The networkmanager plasmoid is developed in KDE SVN with input from Sebas and others so I guess it will turn out well.
About the printer applet, I think it doesn't work because of Python 2.6 currently. If you have used Live-CDs, it makes no sense on them as cups, drivers are missing on it anyway.
